Who doesn’t love the fried chicken pitas that you get from National Coney Island? They are more commonly known as “Hani’s” but for those not familiar with the name, these fried delights are horrible for you but taste oh so good 🙂 I decided to create a healthier alternative that you can make right at home in a matter of minutes:) Say hello to your new Meatless Family Dinner Favorite! You will need the following ingredients:
-4-5Â Chickenless Crispy Tenders (Trader Joes)
-1 Slice Daiya Cheddar Cheese
-1 Tbsp. BBQ Mayo (recipe below)
-1 Garlic Naan or Pita
-¼ c. Chopped Onion
-Handful of Romaine Lettuce
Combine Trader Joes Vegan Mayo and Organic Sriracha BBQ Sauce 1:1. Stir and you’re ready! Now on to our recipe 🙂
Place your tenders in a cast iron pan on medium heat with a small amount of oil in the bottom (I prefer to use grapeseed oil). Allow them to fry until golden brown and crispy, remove from pan and place on paper towel to drain excess oil.
Place your sweet onions in a pan and fry until golden as well 🙂 While those are cooking you can assemble your sandwich 🙂 Take your pita, spread BBQ mayo and layer vegan cheese over it. You can microwave these for 30 seconds if you want your cheese to be extra melty 🙂
Once your onions have completed cooking and your tenders have cooled, begin to pile it on your naan! Place your naan back into the pan your onions came from and cook for another 2 minutes or until the bread is beginning to crisp.
Remove from heat, add lettuce and drizzle a little extra BBQ mayo over top! Wrap up and enjoy!
Packing in 11g of Protein with the tenders, and 10g from the Naan bread, you come in with a whopping 21g of Protein per sandwich! Vegans get their protein in just as much as others who eat meat. We just get it in without all of that harmful cholesterol 😉
Give this a try and let me know what you think below! Would you change anything, if so, what is it? I love feedback! Thanks for following!
