Blazin’ BBQ Pizza (Vegan)

Everyone is a fan of the BBQ Chicken Pizza from various pizza companies, however what if I told you that I can make that same pizza but Vegan?!? Well you’re in luck, because I have a recipe ready for you:) Try this combo with your family, and I assure you complete satisfaction. The ingredients are cheap and the effort to make them is even cheaper. Feel free to get the kids involved with the pizza construction and have a fun/creative time prepping dinner 🙂 You’ll need the following:

-1 Block EXTRA FIRM Tofu (typically runs you about $1-$2 tops)

-2 Trader Joe’s Pizza Dough Balls (about $1.30 a piece)

-Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce

-Trader Joes Organic Sriracha BBQ Sauce

-1 Chopped Sweet Onion

-Nutritional Yeast

-1 Avocado

-Dried Oregano (add fresh cilantro too if you want to get fancy!)

fullsizeoutput_6eefullsizeoutput_6dcFirst we will preheat your oven to 375 and set your pizza dough balls on the counter to warm up to room temperature. Then we will take your Tofu out of it’s container and place on a paper towel, let it sit for 20-30 minutes to drain. You will most likely have to switch out the paper towel once or twice (it will be soaked!).

Place into your preheated on medium cast iron pan with EVOO, the oil will prevent sticking (give it a nice THICK coating of oil, if it sticks the tofu will rip and create a mess). Stir and cook this tofu for about 10 minutes or until two of the sides are golden brown 🙂

We will then add some Sriracha BBQ Sauce to our tofu. Give it a good thick coating as well (just eyeball it), your tofu will take on this flavor so sometimes a little more will give you a better product.

Once it has been tossed well, place your pan into your preheated oven for 15 minutes, stirring half way through. Now we can assemble our pizzas while the tofu finishes its baking. Take your largest cookie sheet and spray it with non stick EVOO. Spray a little bit of that on your hands and grab your pizza dough out of it’s bag. I find it best to flip the bag inside out, the dough can be a bit finicky. Take a large golf ball sized amount of dough and begin to pull at the sides, working your hands around it in a circle, then laying it onto the tray. I never worry so much about the shape, but if symmetry is your thing then go for it 🙂

Once you have done that to all of your dough, it is now time for the toppings. Place a quarter sized amount of Organic Sriracha BBQ Sauce in the middle of your pizzas. Spread around with a spoon evenly. Try to get it up on the edges of the crust (this is a little tip to make your crust have a sweet glaze to it!).

Add your chopped Sweet Onion

Add your now finished BBQ Tofu. Sprinkle with Oregano and Nutritional Yeast. Then drizzle the top with Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce.

For the final step we will chop up an Avocado and add it to the pizza as well 🙂 Now your pizzas are ready to hit the oven for 20 minutes at 375 🙂

When completed they will look browned around the edges and delicious! Try this recipe out with your family and tell me what you think! You can also place these in food saver bags or zip locks and freeze them for later! An easy way to handle future dinners by just throwing them in the oven again to warm and re-toast!
